“A good nutritionist doesn’t treat disease….she works to improve health and to remove the blocks that may impede health. She works with her clients to achieve balance in body function, to optimize biochemistry and so provide the body with the finest tools to reach and maintain the highest state of wellness.”

Education & Certification
I named my business “An Ounce of Prevention” because, as a child, whenever my Grandmother wanted me to do something, she would remind me of the old proverb: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. It is truth!
I like working with clients who are willing to learn and to make lifestyle changes. The word “DIET” comes from the Greek “DIAITA” which means LIFESTYLE. This encompasses everything about how we live and the choices we make; not just about what we put in our mouths.
I love the “complicated” cases: when clients come to me with a variety of complaints, I search to find the root cause. That is where the healing and recovery lies. So we journey together.
I am often asked about the area of my specialty. My specialty is the person I am working with. I believe I am well-schooled in epigenetics, hormones, and diabetes! However, I bring 20 years of hospital and out-patient experience to my work. This enables me to bring my knowledge and experience of biology, bio-chemistry and pharmacology to my Nutrition Consulting business, and this is often invaluable when getting to root causes with my clients.
Margaret’s original Bachelor of Science degree (Fordham University, NY) in Biology, led her to pursue a career as a Registered Nurse after completing another Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Mount Saint Mary College, NY). She practiced as a Registered Nurse for almost 20 years, working in a variety of hospital and well-patient settings: Medical-Surgical, Critical Care, Pediatrics and Urology.
After leaving Nursing, Margaret continued her studies, preferring to cross over to the alternative therapies. She has a Master of Science in Natural Health (Clayton College, AL) and is a Certified Natural Health Professional (CNHP).
In 1999 Margaret formed her company, An Ounce of Prevention LLC, and started offering Nutritional Consultations. Her practice continues to grow, primarily through referrals from existing and previous clients, and from other disciplines such as physicians, chiropractors, and massage therapists.
An Ounce of Prevention is not Margaret’s “job”.
It is a part of her life that provides a sense of great satisfaction.
